But earlier in the week, hours before the improved Runelite HD was due for an official release, 117 was contacted by Jagex in a letter requesting that work cease and the release be canceled. This time, however, it's not due to copyright rights, but instead because Jagex says they're making its own HD upgrade.
Although that may sound fair at first, there's a huge problem. Runelite HD doesn't actually seem to be breaking any of Jagex's mod guidelines, and the company has stated that new rules informing us of the fact Runelite HD does actually break its guidelines are being released this week.
Mod creator 117 states that they tried to reach an agreement with Jagex by offering the possibility of taking down their mod once Jagex had completed their work it and had released its own work, but, "they declined outright," almost as if they were announcing the end of a project that took "approximately over 2000 hours over the course of two years."
The games will be based on places, characters, and adventures from the vast RuneScape 21-year history in the form of a board game taking between one to five players on quest-based campaigns through Gielinor.
They'll craft and upgrade equipment, train their characters, cook special recipes, engage on a variety of topics with NPCs while testing their abilities while traveling around the world, with a variety of enticing side quests that will distract and amuse them on their journey.
