After a shutdown of over five months, 2G mobile Internet service will be resumed in Kashmir Valley from Saturday, on both postpaid and prepayment phones, but can only be used to access 301 Jammu and Kashmir-approved websites.

On January 25th, after a notice from Jammu and the Jammir administration, the Internet connectivity at 2G-speed will be re-established on mobile phones.

Connection will remain out of reach to Valley residents only for whitelisted websites, and social media applications will continue, it said, adding that both the postpaid and the prepaid sim card data services are also available.

It is possible to resume 2G mobile data services on whitelist websites across Jammu within the week from the management of restore prepaid mobile services in the valley

Search engines, banking, education, news, travel and utility services and jobs are included on the approved sites.

Recent developments followed the Supreme Court, which requested the administration of Jammu and Kashmir to examine all orders imposing curbs in the Union territories within a week in a significant judgment of 10 January.

The Supreme Court strongly enforced an arbitrary closure of the internet on UT administration, which is defined by the apex court as a fundamental right.

On the eve of the Centre's declared declaration that the former state and its bifurcation into union territory upon August 5, Internet services, landline and mobile phones have been snapped in Jammu and Kashmir.

Although the majority of services except mobile Internet were restored within a week in Jammu, Kashmir was able, for essential services including hospitals in phases, to restore landline and postpay mobile services and Internet facilities.
