ROME, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- The satisfaction of citizens in imagining how to improve their lives while understanding and protecting the universe is a theme increasingly treasured by Italy-China scientific cooperation.


City of Science, a science education initiative in Naples, a city in southern Italy, has made of popularization of science a mission for development and is collaborating with China's Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) and other Chinese institutions to build a new global economy based on knowledge.


""We started with the idea that technology not only is insufficient to create a harmonious civilization, but it could even be destructive. Scientific culture is what citizens need to understand how technology should be used properly for the sake of humankind,"" Vincenzo Lipardi, CEO of City of Science, told Xinhua in a recent interview.


The City of Science was established between 1987 and 1996 in a former industrial district of Naples and grew to include the science exhibition center and a business innovation center for start-up companies.
