LOS ANGELES, July 5 (Xinhua) -- The Los Angeles 2024 organizers will go into the Candidate City Briefing in Lausanne with more confidence after their games concept praised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Evaluation Commission in a report published on Wednesday.
LA 2024's sustainable, low-risk Games Plan and its potential to help the Olympic and Paralympic Movements engage with the next generation underlines the US bid's alignment with the IOC's Olympic Agenda 2020 reforms.
The IOC Evaluation Commission report identifies a broad range of areas where LA 2024 has integrated the goals and principles of Olympic Agenda 2020 into its Games Plan, particularly the new philosophy described in Recommendation that ""present an Olympic project that best matches (the Candidate City's) sports, economic, social and environmental long-term planning needs.""
""LA 2024 set out to redefine Olympic sustainability, guided by the IOC' s Olympic Agenda 2020 reforms, and we are delighted that our efforts have resonated so clearly with the IOC Evaluation Commission,"" said LA 2024 Chairman Casey Wasserman in a statement.
""With no permanent venues to build and overwhelming public support, LA 2024 can concentrate on putting the best assets of the top global sports and entertainment market to work for the Olympic and Paralympic Movements. We think that makes Los Angeles an ideal Olympic city and an ideal partner for the IOC right now,"" he added.
""All of us at LA 2024 will go into the Candidate City Briefing in Lausanne full of confidence after the Evaluation Commission's endorsement of our Games Plan. Under Olympic Agenda 2020, the Candidature Process has become a collaborative dialogue, including an open and productive discussion during the Evaluation Commission's visit, which has helped us plan Games that are right for our city and the IOC,"" said LA 2024 CEO Gene Sykes.
The report highlights that LA 2024 requires no additional permanent construction, with all venues either temporary, planned by private investors or already hosting elite sport today. The result is a Games Plan that minimizes risk while promising an outstanding experience for every participant.
The IOC Evaluation Commission indicates that LA 2024 is ""prepared to put its storytelling skills, creative energy and cutting-edge technologies to thrill and inspire the world."" The report also states, ""As one of the entertainment capitals of the world, Los Angeles would host an unforgettable Olympic celebration should LA 2024 win the right to host the Games.""
The IOC Evaluation Commission finished its official visit to Los Angeles in May after touring all proposed venues for the 2024 Olympics Games. Los Angeles and Paris, the other remaining candidate city for the world's largest quadrennial sporting event, have entered a crucial phase ahead of their presentations to IOC members in Lausanne, Switzerland on 11 and 12 July. The final vote will take place during the 131st IOC Session on 13 September in Lima, Peru.

SHENZHEN, May 11 (Xinhua) -- China must do more to protect intellectual property (IP) if it wants its companies to come up with original products and compete abroad, according to the founder of Huawei, the Chinese telecoms giant that has been successful largely through R&D.
"Only if it protects intellectual property will China see more inventions. Ensuring originality is respected will attract more people into this field and help original ideas grow into industries," said Ren Zhengfei.
Huawei has become a standard-bearer for China's industrial sector after its 30-year rise from a small workshop into one of the world's leading manufacturers of telecoms equipment. Spending 10 percent of its annual budget on R&D, Huawei is of even more interest now that the government is encouraging startups and bigger companies to "innovate" in the hope that their creativity and modernization can spur the slowing economy.
Ren Zhengfei founded Huawei in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen in 1987. He has kept himself out of the media spotlight and rarely speaks to reporters. However, in a sit-down interview with Xinhua, the 72-year-old gave his views on the company and tech market's past, present and future.
Ren noted how Chinese companies have missed out on the first wave of the Internet boom. "Global tech giants like Cisco, Google, Facebook and Apple have emerged with the popularization of broadband, but there were few Chinese companies involved, and this is because of weak IP protection," he said.
