TOKYO, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- Defending champion Brazil won a 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-21) victory over China Thursday in the World Grand Prix Finals 2014 held here in Ariake Coliseum.


Carvalho Jaqueline and Fernanda Rodrigues led the Brazilians with 15 points respectively, while China's best scorer was Liu Xiaotong with 13 points.


Brazilians took an edge on blocks with 8-4 against China, while Brazil had four serve points, one point more than China.


The two teams played tight in the beginning of the first set but errors and wide-spikes made Brazilian lost four points and China scored 8-5 at the first technical timeout. Brazil came big and played a 7-2 lead, forcing China's coach Lang Ping called a timeout. Brazilian kept their edge through better defense and surpassed China at 16-13 at the second technical timeout.


Both sides traded bombs until 21-19. Two spikes by Brazilians made them took a lead at 23-19, prompting China called timeout again. China chased after Brazil at 23-21 and forced Brazil to call a timeout. China maintained its momentum and continued to gain two points at 24-23, making Brazilian coach to call the team off the court.
