THE largest delegation of Chinese mainland Olympians to visit Taiwan started their trip yesterday as officials voiced hopes that sports exchanges between the two sides would continue despite worsening relations between the two sides.


The group of 15 Rio Olympics gold medalists in cycling, weight-lifting, taekwondo, women’s volleyball Cheap Jrue Holiday Jersey , shooting and athletics will share their experiences with Taiwan counterparts and students during the five-day visit.


The visiting Olympians include Zhang Mengxue, who won China’s first gold medal at the 2016 Games in women’s 10m air pistol, and three players from the women’s volleyball team that claimed gold after a 12-year wait.


The trip comes as relations with the mainland have grown increasing frosty since Tsai Ing-wen of Taiwan’s Democratic Progressive Party won the leadership in January. Relations between the two sides have turned frosty since Tsai’s government took office in May for failing to publicly accept the “one China” principle that governed ties with her predecessor.


Taiwan has accused the Chinese mainland of pressuring a number of countries to deport Taiwan fraud suspects to the mainland rather than their home territory.


Sports officials hope the visit will help to promote exchanges in their fields despite the growing political tensions.


“Sports is sports and politics is politics,” said Tsai Szu-chuen, vice president of Chinese Taipei Olympics Committee. “I believe the government will look forward to continuing sports exchanges between the two sides and support us.” (Taiwan takes part as Chinese Taipei at major events including the Olympics.)

His departure upends Trump's senior team after less than one month in office.

Trump named retired Lt. Gen. Keith Kellogg as the acting national security adviser. Kellogg had previously been appointed the National Security Council chief of staff and advised Trump during the campaign. An administration official and two people with knowledge of the situation confirmed the Justice Department warnings on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly. It was unclear when Trump and Pence learned about the Justice Department outreach.

The Post also first reported last week that Flynn had indeed spoken about sanctions with the Russian ambassador.


Trump never voiced public support for Flynn after that initial report, but continued to keep his national security adviser close.
