NEW YORK www.whatnice.com , Feb. 16 (Xinhua) -- Sea ice in the Antarctic has shrunk to its lowest level since records began nearly four decades ago, preliminary U.S. satellite data has shown.


Figures from the U.S. National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) on Wednesday show that sea ice in the frozen continent covered just 2.26 million square km on Tuesday Mizuno Shoes Womens Sale , lower than the lowest level seen around this time in 1997.


Mark Serreze, director of the NSIDC Mizuno Shoes Sale , told reporters that the new data still need to be confirmed with a few days of measurements.


The sea ice is likely to decrease further as it usually melts to its smallest for the year at the end of February in the summer of southern hemisphere.


Sea ice at both poles has been expected to decline as the Earth heats up due to man-made global warming. However, the conditions in the Antarctic are much more variable.


The average extent of sea ice around the South Pole has tended to expand in many recent years and hit a record high of around 20.16 million square km in September 2014.

BEIJING， April 12 (Xinhua) -- Coach Gong Luming， who helped the Chinese men's basketball team return to the Asian top podium last October， will continue to lead the team to Rio Olympic Games this August， the Chinese Basketball Association's website said on Tuesday.


The Chinese basketball's governing body released a list of the team's coaching staff with Gong still as the head coach.


Gong's coaching position had been uncertain in February as some reports claimed that he failed to reach a consensus with the association on his pay and bonus. Later， Gong told Xinhua that he was still communicating with the governing body.


Later than usual， the Chinese Basketball Association released a 23-man squad on March 31， with assistant coach Li Nan taking over the team's daily training.


Now， Gong remains in office.


"Our players are not in good form now. Without head coach， they cannot fully concentrate on training，" Gong told CCTV.
